‘The Littlest Star’ Shines Again With New Christmas Single By Chuck Whiting

NASHVILLE — “The Littlest Star” is shining again with the release of a new single by Nashville singer-songwriter Chuck Whiting.

The classic holiday tune was first recorded by country legend Margo Smith in 2000. It hit several singles charts and continues to be heard every Christmas season on radio and online media platforms.

“Writers of a dear song sometimes want to release their own versions,” said Whiting, who recorded “The Littlest Star” at Nashville’s Eastside Sound in November 2021. “It’s a wonderful feeling to bring the music and story back to life. I loved working on it again.”

The original “The Littlest Star: a musical story” features an EP with performances by Smith, Grammy-nominated guitarist Denny Jiosa, and Nashville Chamber violinist Conni Ellisor. The hard cover book features original artwork by Smithsonian-exhibited American folk artist Robert Roberg, who also co-wrote the song with Whiting. A play based on the book has been developed for future staging. The book and CD are distributed by Shine Time Records and Books.

The story centers on The Littlest Star, the tiniest star of all. All of the other stars were dispatched on their missions, but he was left in God’s pocket all alone. Finally, after thousands of years, he was polished up and sent out on the most important mission in the Universe.

“It’s a very moving tale that combines fantasy with truth,” Whiting added. “Various books, songs and plays based on the same theme have been released since we first introduced the song and book in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The story is deeply touching and needs to be told.”

The latest single features performances by violinist/mandolinist Myles Thompson, vocalist/guitarist/studio engineer Angel Pontier, and vocalist Katie Brooks

“The Littlest Star (A Christmas Story)” can be heard for free on YouTube and other online media platforms. The song is published by Striking Moon Music (ASCAP).

Nashville Composer-Author-Educator Chuck Whiting Releases New Album 'Dreamer On The Prowl'

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 2018) -- Nashville composer, author and educator Chuck Whiting has released a new album of original songs and instrumentals featuring performances by respected Nashville musicians.

Whiting describes his first solo effort, "Dreamer On The Prowl," as a reflection of his life's work. For many years, he wrote songs with the goal of landing cuts with other artists. Now his passion is aimed more towards the arts and originality, with a focus on film and television.

"I have a love for all kinds of music," Whiting said. "For me, recording this album wasn't about trying to fit into a particular genre. It was more about being true to who I am. I hope listeners will appreciate the authenticity. At this stage of my life and career, my work is more about expressing myself and being real."

"Dreamer On The Prowl" features eight instrumentals and four vocal tunes, with guest appearances by acclaimed musicians such as clarinetist/saxophonist Max Niederle, harmonica player Chris "Freight Train" Floyd, violinist Myles Thompson, guitarist Tim Thompson, cornetist/guitarist Bryan Cumming, and the Grammy-nominated The WannaBeatles.

The album is available at a host of online retailers, including CD Baby and iTunes. To hear or download selections from "Dreamer On The Prowl," visit http://store.cdbaby.com/cd/chuckwhiting3 or https://itunes.apple.com/mn/album/dreamer-on-the-prowl/1324598666 .

"These incredible Nashville area artists helped lift my work to a higher level than I could have done myself," Whiting added. "They totally understood what I was reaching for."

Highlights on the album include the Broadway-esque instrumental and vocal tune "Baby You're Good" (written with Candy Paull), the inspirational pop ballad "When You Have Love" (written with Lisa Aschmann), the classical instrumental "Water" (a duet with violinist Myles Thompson), a New Orleans-inspired instrumental called "Ragtimer Blues," and an "outside-the-box" jazz instrumental arrangement of "You Never Give Me Your Money" (a classic cover written by Lennon/McCartney). Max Niederle duets with Whiting on several instrumentals, including the title track.

"I couldn't record my first album without including an instrumental cover of a Beatles song," Chuck continued. "They've been with me since the very beginning."

Selections from "Dreamer On The Prowl" were recorded in various recording studios with engineering support from Fett, Bryan Cumming, Tim Thompson, Eric Normand, Dennis Scott, John Nicholson, and Michael Erin Woody. The project was mastered by Fett, and graphic design was handled by Brian T. Cox.

Chuck Whiting is a songwriter, composer, pianist, singer, author, publicist and educator. He began his career as a reporter for The Mobile (Ala.) Press Register and The Birmingham (Ala.) News. He worked in the PR field after that, including a seven-year stint as the PR representative for the Opryland Hotel. He launched his own Nashville company, Music City Arts Network, in 1993. He currently serves as an instructor of Mass Communications for Motlow State Community College in Smyrna, Tennessee.

Chuck Whiting performs at "Tunesmithing" in Nashville
Music-wise, Whiting has previously released the Christmas book and CD, "The Littlest Star: a musical story." The song hit the Top 100 on various charts, landing radio airplay around the world. Americana Artist Chakra Bleu Releases New Reggae Single to Help Heal a Divided World

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 2015) – Americana artist Chakra Bleu is using a new Reggae single to encourage Americans to unify peacefully to help solve important issues related to equality and justice.

Although she usually shies away from politics in her music, the artist said she feels a sense of urgency in sharing her song, "We Shall Overcome", with people from all walks of life. The tune calls people to use love and acceptance of one another to help heal a divided world. It will be featured on an upcoming album to be released July 29.

"The overall vibe of 'We Shall Overcome' is upbeat, inspiring and empowering in the Reggae genre," said Bleu, whose last single hit number one on various Americana record charts. "This genre is welcoming of just hanging out where you are, whomever you are, with the intent of all of us coming together heart, soul and mind."

The artist added that the song practically wrote itself. She intuitively chose the key of A-Major to help brighten a passionate lyrical message that promotes positive change through the love and acceptance of one another. By dedicating a single to social causes, Bleu follows in the footsteps of legendary artists such as Bob Marley, Pete Seegar, John Lennon and Joni Mitchell. She said she hopes the song can be used by non-profit organizations to help inspire true equality and justice for all races, genders, immigrants and sexual identities.

"My song asks the listener to consider his or her own dignity and encourages the dignity of all others through peaceful measures," Bleu noted. "It calls us to speak out, stay involved and informed, vote, and expect total equality for humanity as a whole."

"We Shall Overcome", which was recorded in Nashville, features an infectious, sing-along chorus.

"We shall overcome and lead the way... We won't bow down to fear and hate... We shall overcome and lead the way... Our voice won't be choked another day... We'll raise our hands... We've only just begun... Yes we can... We shall overcome."

"The song speaks out against violence and hate crimes, as well as social-economic issues such as guaranteeing fair voting rights, raising the minimum wage, offering more affordable housing, and improving access to higher education," Bleu continued. "I believe my favorite line is 'only cowards choose to intimidate'."

Born and raised in Spokane, Wash., Bleu grew up with a passion for music and the outdoors. Her music accomplishments have been substantial since then. The rock/pop tune "All of Me" hit number one on New Music Weekly's Top 40 Indie Chart, while climbing into the top 10 on the NMW mainstream Top 40 and Hot 100 singles charts. Another recent single, "The Shadow", quickly climbed various NMW charts, reaching number four on Top 40, number four on Hot 100 A/C, number five on Top 40 Internet, and number one on Indie Top 40 (where it remained for six consecutive weeks). Her sixth album, "Souvenir", generated five top-40 hit singles on various charts, with the song "Addicted to You" receiving "Spotlight" recognition in Cashbox Magazine. Other hit singles from previous albums include "When I Hold Your Hand" and "Hopelessly in Love".

"I'm truly going to share everything I can think of to help artists book better gigs and to get them out on the road sharing their music with the world."

The "Ultimate Booking and Touring" training process will show artists how to

         * Prepare for their first on-the-road gig.

         * Expand into new towns, new venues or even brand new music markets.

Outdoor Songwriting Adventures Lead Chakra Bleu to Success

By Chuck Whiting
MCAU Editor

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 2015) – Some songwriters pen songs in their living rooms, others in the cozy writing rooms at ASCAP and BMI.

But for pop/rock/Americana artist Chakra Bleu of Spokane, Wash., successful songwriting wouldn't be possible without solo excursions into the great outdoors. Her "songwriting adventures" as she calls them are a way to bring "wonder, awe and gratitude" into every song she writes.

On July 31 (Friday), the artist will take her guitar, notebook and pencils to the mountainous Spokane region for what she hopes will be her most inspiring writing sabbatical yet. She will spend almost three weeks alone at a cabin in the rural inland Northwest, writing melodies and crafting lyrics with daily breaks for hiking, roller blading and meditation. This fall, she will do the same thing near Asheville, N.C., in Pisgah National Forest.

Chaka Bleu on one of her 'Songwriting Adventures".

"The utter peace, adventure and wonderment of the great outdoors calls to my heart and inspires me on so many levels," said Bleu, whose latest single "All of Me" has topped New Music Weekly's Top 40 Indie Chart for five consecutive weeks. "I focus completely and solely on writing songs or melodies at those times. Both cabin locations are close to a lot of mountains and natural water, be it a lake, streams and river, and have access to hiking trails and greenways."

Chakra starts each sabbatical morning with a meditation (her songwriting multi-vitamin) to clear her mind and free up her creative spirit. She eats fresh organic yogurt while reviewing a new lyric or melody she wrote the night before. She then takes a four to five-mile walk with pen and paper in hand, thinking of ways to expand and/or build on her ideas.

The tunesmith plans to write up to a dozen full song melodies during her Washington sabbatical, recording rough versions with a small, portable tape recorder. She will play the melodies back again and again in Nashville before penning lyrics during her October songwriting adventure in North Carolina.

"While playing back a melody, I tune into my feelings, asking myself what the song might be about," the artist added. "Before long, I start getting ideas for a particular direction. Sometimes, I just start hearing lyrics, perhaps part of a phrase. Then I start the process of building a story."

That's just what happened with her latest hit song "All of Me", which currently sits at number one on NMW's Top 40 Indie Chart, number two on NMW's mainstream Top 40 Chart, and number seven on NMW's Hot 100 Chart. The music was written at a lakeside cabin in Washington. She added the lyrics while on a songwriting adventure near Asheville five months later. The melodic theme under the words "I want to know" was inspired from a Chickadee songbird that she heard while on a camping trip in the Cumberland Mountains of Tennessee.

To watch the "All of Me" video, visit https://youtu.be/OLvBUksVBKc.

Bleu noted that her song, "Sunflower of My Dreams", was written after she roller bladed through a field of Washington sunflowers.

"The sunflowers evoked a feeling of joy and happiness in me," Bleu continued with a smile, noting that the song is featured on her fifth album, "You're The One". "I noticed how they were all facing the direction of the sun. Once back at the cabin, I researched the symbology of the sunflower. The next morning, I started hearing the beginnings of a beautiful melody in my head, which I started writing down immediately. I finished the rest of the melody once back in Nashville, whereby I wrote the lyrics several months later in the Blue Ridge Mountains."

Chakra Bleu rests during a mountain climb.

Other songs created during her writing adventures include "Footprints in the Sand", "Hidden Mirror", "Retreat to the Center", "Believe in Me", and "You're What's Missing".

Bleu will take a short break from writing on Aug. 10 to appear on the "Good Day Spokane" talk show, airing live on Fox 28-TV.

The artist's passion for hiking, climbing and camping in the great outdoors isn't limited to her two annual songwriting adventures. She set out on her first backpacking trip into the Cumberland Mountains shortly after moving to Nashville in the 1990s. She knew she was addicted soon after she hit the primitive camping trails toting a backpack, cooking gear and flashlights -- although a bad thunderstorm, red ants, ticks and chiggers gave her a few second thoughts.

"The desire to know how to backpack more efficiently led me to take some classes at REI," Bleu added. "From then on, I've been backpacking in places near Nashville such as Savage Gulf, Fall Creek Falls, Virgin Falls, Frozen Head, Pickett State Park, and Big South Fork."

Bleu also has taken numerous hiking and climbing adventures in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Washington and other states in the Northwest. During a recent trip to Montana and Idaho, she joined friends for a rugged outdoor adventure that included climbing a three-pitched granite rock called "Cruel Shoes", riding bikes up and down steep mountain roads for miles, and hiking cliff-hanging trails thousands of feet above sea level. She ended her trip by hiking to a mountain-fed lake on Jenny Lake Trail in the Grand Tetons.

The artist says her backwoods jaunts in the South are just as exciting, although with a few annoyances.

"You can expect to get a few hitch-hikers, namely ticks and chiggers, and see a copperhead snake or two on the trail or swimming in the water with you," she laughed. "I've been grateful not to encounter a wild boar or angry momma bear. Yet, I hang my food at night and depend on my dog's nose and ears to give me fair warning of uninvited critters coming into my camp."

Chakra Bleu enjoys a creative songwriting hike.

Although Chakra doesn't believe her songwriting adventures are for everyone, she encourages creative types to get outdoors. She's run into a few of her peers during day hikes near Nashville, including Percy/Edwin Warner parks, Radner Lake Trail, Long Hunter State Park, and Montgomery Bell State Park.

"The delicacies of nature are divine and wondrous," said Bleu, who also sidelines as a visual artist. "I actually get into looking at the details of a petal of a wildflower, counting its petals and looking at its unique shape, color and texture."

Born and raised in Spokane, Wash., Bleu grew up with a passion for music and the outdoors. She started writing songs in middle school and performing with jazz choirs and grunge, rock and country bands in high school and college. On weekends, she headed to the mountains for hiking and camping. After college, she lugged her guitar and synthesizer to Paris, where she taught English at the French/American Language Academy for a year. She spent the next two years back home in Washington working in secondary education. But a trip to Nashville changed her life. Successful performances at the Bluebird Cafe and other venues convinced her to move to Music City to pursue a professional career as a singer-songwriter.

Bleu's music accomplishments have been substantial since then. Her recent single, "The Shadow", quickly climbed various NMW charts, reaching number four on Top 40, number four on Hot 100 A/C, number five on Top 40 Internet, and number one on Indie Top 40 (where it remained for six consecutive weeks).

According to Dave Carew, a writer for the blog Underground Nashville, Bleu is "hands down one of the most original and distinctive pop/rock/Americana artists ever to grace the underground Nashville music scene. Inspired by everything from the styling of bands like Heart and the Cowboy Junkies, to transcendent New Age thought, she has forged, over the past decade, some of the most uplifting, eclectic, thought-provoking, and empowering music ever created in Music City USA."

Chakra Bleu's Single 'All of Me' Hits Number One on Top 40 Indie Chart

By Chuck Whiting
MCAU Editor

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 2015) –Chakra Bleu's rock/pop tune "All of Me" has hit number one on New Music Weekly's Top 40 Indie Chart, while climbing into the top 10 on the NMW mainstream Top 40 and Hot 100 singles charts.

"All of Me" has been steadily edging up the charts with thousands of spins since its release on April 18. Bleu co-produced the recording in Nashville with legendary musician John Billings, a former bass player for the late Donna Summer. An accompanying video was produced by Ray Boone of Music City Video.

"It's wonderful to see 'All of Me' climb into the top 10 on various singles charts," said Bleu, who is already writing and recording songs for her next album. "I'm humbled by this stellar progress, as I know I'm a small fish in a big sea. I couldn't accomplish this without the wonderful team of professionals around me."

"All of Me" is the title track and the second single from her current album. Its number one ranking on the NMW Top 40 Indie Chart for three consecutive weeks placed it above other songs recorded by artists such as Rhianna and Brandy Moss Scott. The song ranked just below Taylor Swift at number four on the Top 40 Main Chart (for three consecutive weeks) and number seven on the Hot 100 Chart.

"'All of Me', is a savory treat of pop-rock and R&B -- sweet and sultry with a shake of sass," said Bleu, who recently released a new video and electronic dance single called "When We Dance".

The song, which was released by 1746 Records, is available for 99 cents. "All of Me" and other songs on multiple albums can be downloaded on iTunes at https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/all-of-me/id882273855?uo=4 and her website at www.ChakraBleu.com. The song is also available at other major online stores such as CD Baby, Amazon, iHeartRadio and Sony Music Unlimited. A free video download is available at https://youtu.be/OLvBUksVBKc .

The artist describes "All of Me" as an "electrifying song" that is about moving forward freely and confidently in love. The video shows the artist tearing up a love letter and covering it with daffodils on the floor. She eventually speeds away on a motorbike, leaving her love-lost past behind. A high-energy stage performance with full band shows off her gritty vocals and elaborate finger work on electric guitar.

The single was recorded in Nashville at Funky Tymz Studio. It features Bleu on vocals and electric guitar with contributions from veteran session musicians John Billings on bass, Brice Foster on drums/percussion, Tom Britt on lead and slide guitar, Ronnie Godfrey on keyboards and organ, and Dana Robbins on saxophone. The single is being promoted to radio by music industry veteran Gary Lefkowith. Whiting Publicity and Promotions is handling publicity.

"All of Me" rocks away the pain with soaring vocals, crying guitar, driving bass and soulful sax. "Nothing's binding me now... There's no baggage dragging me down," Bleu sings with emotion. "I'm open, light, and free as a breeze... It's just you and me."

She started writing songs in middle school and performing with jazz choirs and grunge bands in high school and college. On weekends, she headed to the mountains for hiking and camping. After college, she lugged her guitar and synthesizer to Paris, only to lose her green card a year later. She spent the next two years back home in Washington working in secondary education. But a trip to Nashville changed her life. Successful performances at the Bluebird Cafe and other venues convinced her to move to Music City to pursue a professional career as a singer-songwriter.

Chakra Bleu Releases Electronic Dance Single 'When We Dance'

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 2015) – Hit Americana/rock/pop artist Chakra Bleu is expanding into the electronic dance genre with "When We Dance", a new single featuring the keyboard wizardry of former Wynonna music director Harry Sharpe and engineering by former Donna Summer bassist John Billings.

Released by Nashville-based 1746 Records, "When We Dance" is described as a "magnetic, pulsing recording that captures the timeless, passionate moment of a couple dancing closely together on the dance floor." The rhythmically entrancing recording was mixed by Billings, with keyboards by Sharpe and lead guitar by Paul Allen, a veteran musician who has toured with Big & Rich, Richard Marx and others.

Bleu's latest release follows a string of hit singles that have climbed into the top 10 on various charts. Her most recent single, "All of Me", recently hit number seven on the NMW Top 40 Main Chart and number 10 on the NMW Hot 100 Chart, with airplay on terrestrial and online radio stations around the world. Another recent single, "The Shadow", reached number four on the same chart, where it remained for six weeks.

"I'm having the time of my life," said Bleu, who sings, plays guitar, and writes most of her own music. "How many artists get the opportunity to collaborate with some of the most successful musicians of all time? 'When We Dance' was written on my guitar, yet I knew it would need keyboard arrangements and an electronic dance beat to bring it into its full element. Harry Sharpe did an excellent job adding an infectious vibe to the recording."

Bleu, also a visual artist, said she wrote the tune while reflecting on a dancing experience with an old flame. For the cover art, she painted herself twirling hand-to-hand with the bearded man on a glowing dance floor.

"Dancing closely together with someone can be intensively passionate," the pop artist added. "When two people become interested in each other, it seems that the desire to dance together is natural. Becoming lost in the music, engaging closely in each other's energy, can be a euphoric feeling in and of itself. That's what I wanted to bring out with 'When We Dance', and I believe we've succeeded."

Bleu also expresses these sentiments in her lyric, which includes editing contributions from Mary L. Boyd. The artist uses her Pretenders and Bowie-esque vocals to draw the couple into a mesmerizing embrace. "I hear our bodies whisper in a language of their own... Pull me into you and take me home... Losing ground I slip into another world... I'm letting go so baby hold me close."

The recording, which was mastered by Jim DeMain at Yes Master Studio, is available for digital download at a host of online retailers, including iTunes, CD Baby, Amazon, Spotify, iHeartRadio and Sony Music Unlimited.

Born and raised in Spokane, Wash., Bleu grew up with a passion for music and the outdoors.

Bleu's music accomplishments have been substantial since then. One of her recent singles, "The Shadow", quickly climbed various NMW charts, reaching number four on Top 40, number four on Hot 100 A/C, number five on Top 40 Internet, and number one on Indie Top 40 (where it remained for six consecutive weeks).
